As I sit comfortably in my home, now going on the fourth week, I think about how lucky I am to be able to do so. Today I started teaching from home through distance learning. I know that there are many who get to work for home on a daily basis and then there are those who have been laid off and who are not working at all and dealing with their own hardships!
Then there are those who are Front Line Workers, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, paramedics, cashiers, grocers, trucks drivers, restaurant employees ... I am sure I have missed someone. Everyday these people are considered essential and must go to work. Due to them, I get to go and pick up my groceries and allergy medicine pretty much at my convenience. I want fresh fruit, a truck driver has driven it miles and miles to get it to my grocery store. Not to mention the convenience of online shopping and free delivery, which for me could get costly!
But to all the health care workers who are facing this pandemic, I just cannot imagine what they see every day, from crowded hospitals, to sick people to very ill patients dying alone. The same can be said for those working in nursing homes. Imagine loosing a love one and not being able to hold their hand or say good bye? Aside from treating the sick and the death, these health care workers are also fighting for their own health, as the need of protective equipment becomes so hard to come by. And like the rest of us, they too have families who may not get to see them due to their long work hours or due to self isolation as a preventive measure of the spread of Covid-19. It breaks my heart to see doctors and nurses almost in tears and some crying, asking the public to stay home and the Government for more protective equipment.
To all the front line workers I say thank you! To all Canadians, I say stay home.
How true! It’s so crazy that at this time some people are complaining about being “prisoners “ when one can’t begin to imagine what the medical staff have endured in this very scary time . Thank you to you as well Fancy Nancy for your continued love and commitment to your students . Teaching on line did not come with instructions. You step up every day 💖
