Happy Valentine's Day

It is that time a year where flower and chocolate sales are at their peek and for the lucky ones visits to Tiffany's! But Valentine's is more than just gifts, it's about the gesture of caring and spreading love and kindness.

In honour of St. Valentine himself, who was not only the patron Saint of couples and marriage, but of love. With that I think it is important to remember not everyone has a significant other/partner and some have lost their loved one and are now widowed. It is important we remember those people today too! Be it they are a friend or family member, it is important that they know they have not been forgotten and they too are loved. It could be a text, a phone call or dropping off a little something such as baked goods, fresh flowers or a bottle a red or rosé.

Imagine what the world would be like if we didn't put ourselves first all the time. Imagine we accepted people for who they are no matter their religion, colour, race or sex. Imagine if we could agree to disagree and respect the fact we have different views. Imagine if we lived in a world filled with more love and less hate.

I think today is a wonderful reminder of LOVE. Be it you are single or attached, we all have someone we love. But in keeping with the Valentine's spirit, we should try to make more days about love and I do not mean flowers and fancy jewelry, not that I would say no to Cartier. What I do mean is, simple acts of kindness can go a long way, and it will make you feel just as good as the recipient of your kindness. Has anyone ever done something nice to you for no reason, do you remember how good you felt?

When looking up possible definitions of love I found the following "Love, a willingness to prioritize another's well being or happiness above your own." I would like to add to the definition by saying, that by providing love to others ultimately will bring happiness to oneself.

So on this Valentine's Day, I leave you with this quote from one of my preferred French writers, George Sand, " There is only one happiness in life, to love and to be loved".

Happy Valentine's Day
