Summer of 2020 is like no other! With Covid -19 still lingering and in some countries more like raging, making summer plans most definitely has looked different. But good news, as Canadians, it is not so bad for us as we have a beautiful country to explore.
As a resident of Ontario, I have had the chance to enjoy Wasaga Beach (Georgian Bay) including downtown Collingwood with is boutiques followed by Blue Mountain Village. More recently I travelled to Ganonque and enjoyed a boat ride on the St.Lawrence River. Followed by a drive through historic Kingston. But as our license plates use to read, ONTARIO, yours to discover!
For those who enjoy wine, there is Prince Edward County with its' quaint little towns, wineries and the drive is quite scenic. Wait till the fall! Of course, for serious wine lovers, you can never go wrong in the Niagara Region with an abundance of wineries, lovely inns and the famous Niagara Falls. Just walking up and down the main street of Niagara on the lake lined in beautiful hanging baskets with cafes and artisans shops sure is worth the drive.
With the amazing weather we have had, spending a night or two or a week in a tent or trailer in one of our numerous provincial parks is a great way to escape the city. One can enjoy the nights under the stars roasting marshmallows over the fire, hearing the loons in the background or the crickets or the frogs. You get the picture. It is amazing the amount of lakes we have in the province, for those who like to fish, kayak, canoe, jet ski or simply just swim, one can never go wrong in cottage country. So be it your a camper at a provincial park or a wimp like me in a cottage, our province has many options for some R&R and not just in the summer.
Ontario, been there, done that got the t-shirt, there is so much more to see in our beautiful country that we all call home. From the fishing towns of the maritimes, to the rockies in the west, our options are unlimited. If you feel like a mini French experience, the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal or Quebec City may be for you. The cafes and bistros give you a glimpse to French living, while the aging stone buildings will bring you back in history. If the ocean is your weakness, a drive along the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia will not disappoint, especially if you enjoy some seafood like a good lobster roll! Lastly we have to respect the gorgeous and majestic mountains as well as the lakes and trails of Jaspar, Lake Louise and Canmore, from one breath taking view to another just as spectacular view!
We live in an amazing country with so much to see, do and appreciate. Flying may not be in the cards this summer or anytime soon, but if you look in your own backyard, you never know what adventure awaits you!
O Canada,
Our home and vast and beautiful land!
