Paris, the city of lights

These past few months, actually almost a year now, has made me realize how blessed I am that even though I cannot travel now, I am so fortunate for all the travel I have done. As I watch the news and all the updates from around the world regarding Covid, I find myself remembering some of those cities and countries that I have visited.
One that is still so vivid in my mind is Paris, even 20 years later. I had spent years in university studying the French language, history and culture, then to spend time in Paris was such a thrill. To walk the streets of Montmartre where so many famous artists that I had studied and the many authors of books I read, was for lack of better words, so cool! From walking the narrow cobblestone streets, to exploring the magnificent and detailed architecture of the Notre Dame Basilica, to enjoying a crepe suzette at a café, Paris was even better than I could have imaged.
I had the opportunity to take a night tour of this breath taking city where I admired the many sites and sounds of Paris. Such as the windmill of the famous Moulin Rouge, the Opera House all lite up, to grandeur of the historic Louvre with its modern pyramid sitting in the centre welcoming all visitors, the diamonds and rubies (cars) of the Champs de l'Elysées to the piece de resistance, la tour Eiffel twinkling in the night sky , like a precious and expensive jewel. Paris is indeed the city of lights. It is just as beautiful during the day as it is at night, which explains why the French have strategically lite up their city in such a way, it captivates all visitors!
One day we will all be able to travel again safely, and I hope to go back to the home of Coco Chanel, Yves St.Laurent and the Mona Lisa. You will find me at a quaint table at the Café de Flore with a café au lait, who am I kidding, more like a glass of chardonnay and falling in love all over again with the splendour of Paris, the city of lights!
A bientôt!
