Putting the happy back in Happy New Year

2020...oh what a year! It has been a year like no other. But despite all the bad, it is time that we all look back and remember the good, even if it did not feel like there were a lot of happy moments.
Back in March the world literally stopped. Literally, as no one was travelling and countries all implemented their own lockdowns, something that the world had never experienced and at first seemed a little scary and for some not fair. For weeks life slowed down and it seemed we all got a chance to breath and go back to a more simple way of life.
During that time the majority of us where at home. There was no rushing in the morning to get the kids ready for school, nor was there the worry of having to sit in commuter traffic. Families were not having to go from school to dance practice or hockey tournaments. Instead families had time to sit at the dinner table to have a proper meal without looking at the clock, but instead enjoy some quality time. More households were making home cooked meals and baking (as there was no flour to be found) and re-learning or learning for the first time how to play board games. Families were seen taking walks or bike rides, something that may have been difficult with pre-covid work, school and sports schedules. Families had time now to just enjoy being a family.
During 2020, we learned the adapt to a new way of life. Many of us grocery shopped online as well enjoyed take out here and there. We got accustomed to curb side pick up and FED EX and UPS have never been busier. Many of us learned how to navigate ZOOM calls and meetings as we set up offices at home. I should add, that thanks to technology many of us were still very blessed to have jobs (and paycheques), while others lost their jobs or were temporarily laid off.
Throughout this time we watched real life heros at work. Without these front line workers our lives would have looked a little different. Grocery stores and pharmacies were still open for business, truck drivers were still delivering food supplies, restaurants were open for take out, the post still continued their daily mail and package delivery, the garbage still collected (imagine if not) along with those in the medical field not only tending to those sick in the hospitals but our more vulnerable population now living in nursing homes. They all knew the risk of covid, but went into work selflessly.
2020 saw more time spent at home, less travelling, more cleaning, purging, renovating and even an increase in pool and cottage sales. It was you can say, a productive year. Our homes are all cleaned and polished now we must be a little more patient till people can visit again, mind you porch visits are pretty trendy these days!
It has been an unprecedented year but we made it! For that we should be grateful and happy!
HAPPY 2021!
Stay safe.
