It is hard to believe that it has been 23 years since the first episode of Sex and the City aired on HBO. At the time I wonder if Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda would ever have imagine the fame they would experience and that these characters would become house hold names. Fast forward 23 years, 94 episodes, 6 seasons and 2 feature films and a reboot is in the works. Is there still sex in the city?
At the time I was only 24 years old and I was an avid watcher and true fan. I could only dream of having Carrie's wardrobe, her apartment in the city, her social life and those shoes! Thanks to Carrie Bradshaw, I learned all about Minolo Blaknik's, Laboutin's, Dior and Gucci. It was because of those 4 fabulous women, that I tried and still enjoy cosmopolitan martinis. Sex and the City opened my eyes not only to the dating life, but to the amazing city of New York, that I would finally get to visit for my 40th and it did not disappoint.
I remember in my 20's being downtown Toronto with friends and one referring to me as Carrie, I was flattered but I didn't see it. On my honeymoon in the Bahamas, a woman came up to me on the beach and asked me if anyone had ever told me that I look like Sarah Jessica Parker. I blushed and was flattered, but I was no SJP!
Well 20 plus years later and as I approach the first anniversary of starting my own blog, I once again have friends referring to me as Carrie. Maybe it is due to my blogging, my love of fashion or my resemblance (long shot) to Carrie, but I have finally come to accept the comparison and the complement. I will walk in Carrie Bradshaw's shoes any day!
To all the fans of Sex and the City, what does the next chapter have in store for us viewers?
To all of my friends who have supported Fancy Nancy, thank you! 💞
To quote the real Carrie Bradshaw "Friendships never go out of style"
