Sweet memories - Maison Margiela

As a young girl my mom would take me along with her to the mall, where she would visit all the usual places, Mark's and Spencer, Sears, Zellers, Boots Pharmacy and of course Eatons. I always loved going to Eatons, not because it had good quality merchandise, but because he had to best perfume counter! At a very young age, no matter where my mom was in Eatons, I was always drawn to the perfume counter with all the fancy colourful bottles. I would just watch and admire as older ladies spritzed their wrists with samples until they found the scent for them.

Fast forward forty years, and I still am just as intrigued by perfume bottles, but now I have the means to buy these pretty scents. Sephora has become a favourite destination both in person and online. They have an ample perfume selection to choose from, sometimes too many choices, but I am not complaining. More recently I came across the brand Maison Margiela. The bottles are actually simple looking and the labels are more detailed than artistic. But the scents are worth every penny.

My first purchase was Beach Walk and the scent was true to it's name. I first sampled it at Sephora, spritzing my wrist as I had learned as a child the scent swept me away to a sandy beach in Californian. Without a second thought I purchased not just the travel size perfume but the body oil. All summer I wore this and I literally felt like I was on the beach.

I then decided to buy the mini discovery set, where I have been sampling all ten of their fragrances. I first tried Lazy Sunday Morning and as I sprayed it on and it felt like a rainy Sunday to me. I have to admit, I often find myself using this scent on the weekends. Then I tried By the Fireplace which brought me back to a summer camp fire. It also reminded me of the smell of my grandmother's burning wood oven back in Portugal, so of course this one also had become a favourite. Funny how scents can bring back memories, good memories.

Jazz Club has a very rich distinctive smell, and reminds me of being at a bar in an upscale hotel like the Royal York, with jazz music playing in the back ground while I sip on a very dirty martini. Whispers in the Library actually smells like an old traditional book store, with leather bound books, worn out hardwood floors and rustic smoking chairs.I look forward to warmer weather when I can sample the lighter scents, like Flower Market, Under the Lemon Trees and Sailing Day.

The bottles may look simple and the names seem very common but the scents will make you feel far from simple or common. Instead the scents will bring back a happy memory, of a time, of a place or a even a person that brings you joy and puts a smile on your face. So what will you spritz on your wrist?
