As long as I can remember, Blue Mountain has been a go to in the summer as a kid and teenager growing up. Now as an adult, I continue to visit and it never grows old. I must say that Blue Mountain and neighbouring town of Collingwood have experienced an increased in both population and business over the years due to the creation of the Village in Blue Mountain a now 4 seasons tourist attraction.
I have had the pleasure of staying in the Village in the spring, summer and fall, but yet to stay in the winter. I enjoyed a few nights on a couple of occasions at the Blue Mountain Resort Mosaic and the last time I stayed in the Village, I stayed at the Westin Trillium House which was far enough from the hustle bustle of the Village for some much needed r and r . But on my most recent visit, I rented an Air b&b in a quiet neighbourhood, yet at the foot of the mountains. Be it a hotel, chalet, cottage or air b&b, the options are endless as is the scenery in the Blue Mountains.
If you enjoy the outdoors, then Blue Mountains is for you. Aside from enjoying a hike or a ride on a bike on the numerous trails to the obvious skiing or snowboarding in the winter, Blue Mountain has a little something for everyone. The Village itself has numerous restaurants, boutique shops and even live concerts. For those who are adventurous, you can try the ridge runner mountain coaster, which is basically riding a sled down a concrete slide down a mountain and yes it was fun! You can then cool off at the Plunge! Aquatic Centre or at one of the local provincial beaches. Not too far from the Blue Mountains is the town of Collingwood with a decent selection of restaurants, boutiques and a marina if you just rather sit and enjoy the water with a warm or cool drink. The 1858 Caesar Collingwood is a must if you enjoy Caesars, coincidentally I had my very first caesar ever, not too long ago in Collingwood. If you do not mind a short drive, head over to Thornbury, my definition of small quaint Canadian kind of town including restaurants, shops, harbour and one hi-lite was the Thornbury Village Cider & Brewery who host daily tastings...sweet!
The Blue Mountains, the beautiful beaches, the pretty parks and the serene Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain, a favourite. The spa is open all year round, and as one of my masseuse's once told me, the colder it gets in Blue Mountain the busier it gets. The spa is quietly nestled by mature trees, cedars and pines surrounded by various pools set to different temperatures, along with saunas, steam rooms and fire pits strategically burning throughout the spa. There is nothing more relaxing than the smell of fire wood, surrounded by nature while laying on a lounger with no care in the world. If that is not relaxing enough, one can also book a massage for one or two for additional rest and relaxation!
Hot or cold, young or old, the Blue Mountains ticks a lot of boxes and the best part if that it is only a car drive away! And even though I may be a visitor each and every time, it always feels like home when I do go back.
Happy Summer!
