Slabtown Cider House - Uxbridge.

For a girl that enjoys a glass of Prosecco or a Dirty Martini, I have taken a liking to a new bubbly libation known as Cider. The ever evolving world of beverages has only but benefitted many of us social drinkers. The LCBO has a great variety of wines and spirits and as you drive about Ontario, it is more than likely you will come across a micro brewery as craft beers grow in popularity. Now, it is all about the ciders.

Slabtown is located in northern Durham Region and it uses only Ontario apples to create their ciders. It is all local. Even the drive is quite picturesque and at the end, a cold drink! Now full disclosure, I have been a couple times and have sampled at least 8 of their ciders. During my last visit, they were featuring the Watermelon Thyme cider as a summer special. But my favourite is the Mojito de Manzana and yes you can taste the mint and lime. Their ciders vary from dry to sweet, such as the Hint O' Hops, Legendary Cherry, Black Currant, Pineapple Mimosa, Raspberry Tea, Mint Cucumber and Ginger Spritz to name many. I really recommend you try a flight for the first time to get better acquainted with their products. If you do have a favourite or two, you can buy bottles in their store for $16 per bottle.

Hungry you say, there is no need to just drink when you can also order something yummy from their menu. Cider Ribs, Mussels, Baked Brie or Slabtown Board are some options to get you started. For something with more substance, there is Chicken Supreme, Striploin, Atlantic Salmon or Shrimp & Chicken Udon. I enjoyed a thin crust prosciutto pizza made in their pizza oven, and there is even a gluten free crust option. Sitting sipping some delicious ciders, enjoying my pizza on a patio surrounded by green lawns, trees and no city traffic, I say is perfection on a summer afternoon.

Want to try something new, take a drive to Uxbridge and sample Ontario's finest apples in Ciders from Slabtown.
